A PRACTICAL STARTING POINT

Plan a game for streamed play

Cloud gaming runs a game on remote hardware and streams its output to the player. A browser game can instead run directly on the visitor’s device; these are different delivery choices. Start by deciding which approach your project needs. The beginner’s guide below explains the cloud model, while this checklist focuses on the experience your art and production team should evaluate.

Test the screen and the controls together

A scene that reads well on a large monitor may be difficult to understand on a phone. Review interface text, interaction targets and important character silhouettes at the smallest supported display size. Specify whether players use touch, a controller or a keyboard. Test a complete interaction with those controls instead of assuming that a smaller version of the desktop interface will be comfortable.

Review motion in the delivered stream

Judge fast camera moves, fine surface patterns and effects in streamed footage as well as in an engine preview. Include a scene with movement and a scene with dialogue in the review. Check whether players can still identify objectives and read character reactions. Streaming conditions can vary, so record the device and connection used when giving feedback.

Separate content production from infrastructure

A game-art brief should identify the engine, target scenes, asset formats and review conditions. Hosting, streaming capacity and network testing need their own technical owner. Agree how production and infrastructure teams will evaluate the same playable build. Test input response and recovery from an interruption before treating visual quality alone as evidence that the experience is ready.
