From captured performance to digital presence.
The Matrix Awakens opens with a conversation about what is real before it moves into an interactive city. Mimic Productions worked on that cinematic threshold: the narrative trailer sequences conceived with Lana Wachowski and produced with Epic Games. Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss came to the studio for the capture of the introduction.
The White Room monologue required body-performance data for a scene that deliberately questions the boundary between actor and digital character. In the car-interior sequences, facial capture recorded the dialogue and subtler expressions of the two performers. High-resolution scanning supplied likeness data for their digital counterparts. Together, those three streams of work supported the cinematic scenes that lead into the Unreal Engine 5 experience.
This is a Mimic Productions case study, and its published scope is precise: motion capture, facial capture and 3D scanning for the cinematic introduction. The interactive world that follows was a wider Epic Games production.
